Newport also has a couple of big marine aquariums. There are many places to hike around Waldport. A half hour to the south is Cape Perpetua which has outstanding trails and view of the coast that can't be beat. Whereas Waldport's beaches are sandy, Newport's and Yachat's beaches (to the north and south) are rocky with tide pools. The interpretive center in Waldport has a nifty coastal museum with hands on activities for the kids, and the Yaquina lighthouse museum is also very cool. You can see whales all along the coast. Newport has a whale watching museum, but you can see whales from Bayshore if they're around. Same goes for Cape Perpetua. And another half hour north of Newport is Depoe Bay, a pirate's cove, which features whale watching and pirate history. A colony of sea lions lives on the beach at Bayshore. (Listing ID: 16586)
